1. General Provisions

1.1 Purpose and Scope

• Purpose

  This Policy is established to regulate the use of the Innovation Lab, ensuring that all operations and activities are conducted in a safe and orderly environment, thereby safeguarding the personal safety of students, faculty, and staff, as well as the security of laboratory assets.

• Scope of Application

  This Policy applies to all users of the Innovation Lab, including but not limited to DKU students, faculty, staff, and approved external visitors. All users must strictly comply with this Policy and related regulations when entering, using, or borrowing laboratory resources.

1.2 Eligibility for Use

Only individuals who meet the following conditions are permitted to enter and use Innovation Lab resources:

1. DKU faculty, staff, students, or researchers;
2. Students from outside DKU who are registered in DKU courses;
3. Research and technical support staff affiliated with DKU or other approved projects.

1.3 Introduction of InLab

• The Innovation Lab, located in the Innovation Building and Library, is the physical entity of InLab. It houses a range of creative equipment enabling students to develop ideas and transform them into tangible outputs. InLab supports innovation research, interdisciplinary creation, STEAM practice, and related directions.
• IB 2049 Innovation Lab (Research Studio): Mainly serving interdisciplinary, innovative research and creative practices. Involved in 3D modeling, game engines, AIGC, AR/VR, motion capture, BCI, human factors, social innovation, and more.
• LIB 1131 Innovation Lab (Maker Space): Mainly serving integrated innovation activities in STEAM disciplines such as robotics, digital intelligent hardware, and more. (STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics)
• LIB 1121 Digital Imaging & 3D Form Lab: Mainly serving digital imaging and 3D rapid prototyping.

1.4 Organizational Structure and Management

• Supervising Department: Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative, Duke Kunshan University (DKU InE)
  • Responsible for strategic planning, compliance oversight, and resource allocation.
• Academic and Administrative Director: Dr. Liqi Ren
  • Responsible for long-term development of the Lab, alignment with DKU’s mission, and approval of major decisions.
• Lab Director: Yingying Zhao
  • Responsible for daily operations, including access control, booking and borrowing approvals, policy enforcement, and coordination with relevant campus units.
